Manila Photowalk Details

walklogo_web

Hello everyone!

Get ready for Scott Kelby’s 2nd Annual Worldwide Photowalk on July 18! Before the big day, I’d like to share with you some details about our walk.

First off: Location

Our walk will be at the Greenbelt Park (Greenbelt Mall) in Makati. Don’t worry about permits. I have secured a permit for our group to take photos there.

We will be meeting at 4:00pm by the fountain across Starbucks Greenbelt 3. We will then walk around the Greenbelt area, starting from the garden/chapel, go up the Greenbelt 3 to 4 walkway, walk to Greenbelt 5, and then go around Greenbelt 1 & 2.

We will end up back at Greenbelt 3 at around 630pm and we’ll have dinner at Kitchen. They have good grape shakes there, which will be very refreshing after our walk! :)

What can we Shoot?

We can take photos of the buildings, the pond, the garden, people, etc. Since Greenbelt has a policy, we can shoot everything I mentioned EXCEPT the store fronts and displays. This is against the store policy so please make sure to follow this.

What about inside the mall or the walkways of Greenbelt? I was told that we can shoot there, but there should be one requirement — we should not disrupt pedestrian traffic. Inside the mall, we can take pictures of the common areas, but PLEASE, don’t shoot the stores. We don’t want to cause a commotion among the store tenants. :)

Finally, we are a big group; there’s 60 of us. When we walk, we should just be in small groups.

What’s At Stake

I don’t know the limit yet on the photos that you guys will submit. However, there will be 1 winner per location that I will pick. The winner will get a copy of Scott’s Digital Photography Book Vol. 3.

The big news though is this — Scott Kelby will be picking the top 10 (Honorable Mention) photos from ALL the walks as well as the GRAND PRIZE winner. Have you seen the list of prizes? Wow it is indeed gear lust: Nikon D700, Drobo, OnOne Plugin Suite, NAPP Membership, and a lot more!!!

I’m sure you guys will be extra competitive. Just make sure that this is still a social event and it’s really a good time to get to know fellow photographers as well as give some tips & tricks to the newbies. :)

Some Reminders

Make sure to read my blog post on checking your logins and downloading Lightroom 2 prior to the walk.

Our restaurant: Kitchen, is asking if we can pre-order the food so that they can prepare for our group. In line with this, I will be posting a listing of the food they have here. However, in case you know what you want, please feel free to email me your orders. I will take care of consolidating the orders and giving it to them.

Thanks and see you all in 2 weeks!

In case you have questions, please post them here and I will get back to you.

Getting Ready for the Photowalk on July 18

Print

Hello everyone,

Here’s a video by RC Concepcion on checking logins and getting ready for the Photowalk. In case you don’t want to watch the whole video online, here’s a summary of the things to do:

Make sure your logins work

  • To do it, go to www.worldwidephotowalk.com and click the sign-in link in the middle of the page
  • For our Manila walk, you can go to this URL: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/manila-mm-ph/wp-login.php
  • Login using the username and password you used the last time you registered
  • Since it has been probably a month ago since you signed up, you might have forgotten your password. If this is the case, the system will generate a new password for you if you click the ‘Lost Your Password‘ from the login page
  • In case you get a system-generated password and you want to change it, once you login, go to the ‘Profile section’ on the left side and there should be an option there to update your password.

Remember your city name

For the ones in my group, our name is — manila-mm-ph

Download Lightroom 2

It seems that the World Wide Photowalk Team is pushing for Lightroom as the tool to process your photos afterwards. They might even release a plug-in that will allow you to upload photos from Lightroom. In case you don’t have Lightroom or you are not familiar with it, you can:

  • Download Lightroom 2 Trial from Adobe. In case you don’t want to purchase it yet, The download is a 30-day trial, so you have plenty of time from now till the walk!
  • Learn Lightroom. I can give you guys tips (if you want) during the walk, but if you want to quickly learn Lightroom, check out NAPP’s Lightroom Center

That’s all for now, folks! Watch out for more updates about the walk.

Enjoy These Photos…

Hey guys,

Sharing with you some of the photographs that recently caught my attention — mostly because they are very captivating.

sk-tuscany

First off, Scott Kelby has just posted some of his shots from Tuscany. He made it into a photo book layout, just like his previous trips. It got me excited for my trip next year to Italy for our honeymoon.

clarkphoto

Next up, check out some great surfing photos at Clark Little Photography. I just love the colors of the water as well as the different views of the waves. I’ve never seen shots like these and I was amazed when I looked at the rest of his gallery.

And finally, check out RC Concepcion’s photo of his daughter Sabine. It’s gotta be one of the great photos of babies that just capture their awe and their emotion… I won’t say anything more because I will let you enjoy the photo –

Enjoy!

Pinoy Flickrer of the Day

Hey guys,

Thanks to Ken (Flipped Out), I’m on the Pinoy Flicker of the Day! I feel a bit guilty because I have not updated my Flickr account for months now. :) I’ll have updates soon so stay tuned!

Ken ran across my 300 Lightroom Preset and he liked how it made his photo more dramatic! :)

Anyway, don’t forget to check out Ken’s Flickr Stream. It made me miss Chicago more…

Monday News – 2nd Annual Worldwide Photowalk

photowalk09

Hey guys,

First of all, save the date: July 18.

Here’s the big news I was telling you about — Scott Kelby has announced his 2nd Annual Worldwide Photowalk. Last year, I was fortunate enough to be one of the leaders of the walk here in Manila. It was a very fun day and I had a blast meeting new photographers.

What’s new this year? Well, for sure this is going to be BIGGER! Scott’s team created a new site called http://www.worldwidephotowalk.com

What I love about the site is that it has more features! Not only do you get to see the past winners, you also get to see an interactive map of the locations of the walk.

If you want to know more about the walk, make sure to check out the FAQ Section.

I am working out the details of the walk including the city page for Manila. Once I get things done, watch out for more announcements.

If you’re wondering what’s in store, well, the winner of the walk gets a copy of Scott’s new book: The Digital Photography Book, Volume 3. On top of that, there’s an overall winner (picked by Scott) who’s eligible to win lots of prizes (to be announced on the site).

So, watch out for more news. I will update my blog as soon as I have more.

See you soon!

Watch Scott’s Blog for Some Big News on Monday

I won’t spoil the surprise, but watch out for some exciting news from Scott Kelby’s blog tomorrow (Monday)… I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Updated My Blog’s Theme

Saw this new theme… I’m not usually a big fan of green but because it looks environment-friendly, I’m giving it a shot. What do you think?

Hope you like it!
