Okay – I broke my promise. I meant to post photos of Chicago but I did not have the chance to shoot a lot and process my photos because I had my Powerbook fixed. It wasn’t really broke. There was a small white patch on the LCD screen and because it was under warranty, Apple fixed it for free! Thank you, Apple Care!
So, since I have not had the chance to download all my photos yet, this entry will be related to gadgets. I know that most of you know I’m into gadgets and all, but to be honest, I have been trying to hold back lately because I know I have spent way too much in gadgets. Nonetheless, I still can’t resist buying new things whenever I travel (especially because they’re cheap in the US).
Here they are -
1. Apple iPhone – gotcha! You didn’t really think I’d buy one, did you? Hahaha! I have been tempted to buy this but I did not. IF ONLY they are open-line and they can be used in the Philippines, I probably would have gotten one already. You can never see how great this small piece of gadget is until you try using it. The interface is just brilliant. It speaks a lot of how Apple does their design – clean and simple. All I can say is – simplicity is beauty!
Here’s photo of me holding the iPhone at the Apple Store at Michigan Ave. That’s as far as I can go because I don’t want to buy them yet. Gotta save up for one soon…
2. ColorVision Spyder2 – After months of reading and figuring out what the right color should be when I process photos, I figured I’d invest in a calibration tool. There’s a more expensive one (EyeOne) that most reviews recently say is better but for my budget, the Spyder works. I calibrated my laptop and will do the same to the Cinema Display when I get home. This is a big help! The software that it came with was also very easy to follow.
Buy it here from Amazon.com
3. 1 GB RAM for my Powerbook – ordered a 1GB RAM for my Powerbook. It cost me $50 but I think it’s well worth it. I used to have 1.5GB RAM and it still was a bit slow for me whenever I load RAW photos in Lightroom. Hope the upgrade will make me do my edits faster.
I can’t afford to get the new MacBook Pros although I tried them out at the Apple Store and they are REALLY FAST! Tried out editing RAW photos in Aperture there and there is no lag time. Someday, Mike, someday…
4. HDD enclosure from OWC Computing – wanted to buy a spare HDD enclosure for my backup drive. My current one sometimes freezes and it might be related to the chipset that it uses. I have to upgrade the firmware but I’m scared that I might lose my data so I just decided to buy a spare one. Photography REQUIRES lots of HDD space!!!!!
Both the 1GB RAM and the HDD enclosure were bought from Other World Computing.
That’s it! Will post some of my comments next time but for now, I have to run and shop some more! Hahaha!
