For those who want HD video but can’t afford the Canon 5D Mark II, Canon just announced the new Canon EOS Rebel T1i or the Canon 500D.
I don’t want to bore you with the details, but here are some important specs that you should know:
- 15 megapixel
- 1080p HD Video at 20fps (30 fps for 5D Mark 2)
- SD/SDHC card
- Live View
- Available May 2009; Price at around $800
There are more details, sample videos and photos over at Rob Galbraith’s page.

In other news, Canon also announced the new Canon 270EX Flash. It’s a small flash with tilt features and it’s meant for EOS and PowerShot cameras.
I’m not really looking to get the 500D even if I want video.
Plus, I’d probably wait for a year or 2 before I get the video feature in an DSLR. The new Speedlite 270EX Flash is nice though because it’s lightweight and perfect for traveling. Might just get it so that I can leave my Canon Speedlite 580 EX II when I travel.
Enjoy!

Nikon also just released the D5000 which looks to be a direct competitor. One distinguishing feature of the latter is the rotating screen but the T1i does better with video. Also the D5000 lacks the in body motor which limits the lens selection.

Some very interesting and insightful thoughts. I like this.

I’ve had the Canon T1i for a few weeks now, and I absolutely love it. While the video feature is nice, I still would rather use a dedicated video camera.

The Sony A330 and Sony A230 are also worthy new competitors.
