After the Nikon D90, everyone was kinda expecting Canon to announce something that has video in it so that it can compete with Nikon. True enough, they did not disaapoint – Canon released the new Canon 5D Mark II today with availability in November 2008 for $2800 (Body Only).
Some cool features include:
- 21 megapixel, full-frame sensor
- 1080p HD Video at 30fps
- Enhanced Live View Shooting
- Updated LCD Monitor
I mentioned before that Nikon changed the game by introducing video in their camera. Canon just matched this with their new product. However, I think their target audience is different. Nikon released the D90 (and I’ve tried playing around with it at Best Buy) which was primarily targeted to the hobbyist/amateur photographer market. Canon’s 5D is really targeted at the professional photographer market. The price alone shows that. 🙂 Does this mean that Canon decided wrong? Well, I think at some point, they will eventually announce a DSLR with video in the lower-end market to compete with the D90. The Canon 5D is a more expensive upgrade for amateur/hobbyist folks while the Nikon D90 is a much easier option to buy/upgrade if you already have the D80.
Well, enough blabbering from me… here are some photos of the Canon 5D:
Also, Canon announced 2 new cameras, one of which might be something I will eventually get:

And finally, since we’re talking about video, check out Rod Harlan’s at Scott Kelby’s blog regarding video and Photoshop. While you’re reading his post there, try to check out his website too – www.dvconfidential.com. Btw, I also saw Rod at the Midnight Madness of Photoshop World as one of the panel of judges.
Have a nice day guys!
