Scott Kelby’s Digital Photography Volume 2 – My Take

Okay, here’s another addition to my Kelby Library.

I just received my copy of Scott Kelby’s Digital Photography Book Vol 2 last Saturday and I was able to finish reading it from cover to cover by Sunday. No, I don’t read THAT SLOW… I just happen to get some time on Sunday to finally sit down and read the book. It is REALLY EASY to follow and read and of course, I always had fun reading Scott’s introduction for each chapter. 🙂 Scott, you always do a great job in writing introductions! They amuse me all the time! Hahaha!

Anyway, I wanted to share with you some of my comments about the book:

  • I absolutely love the off-flash section and the tips that Scott put in there. It helped me a lot in understanding the basics of lighting and how to set them up.
  • My only suggestion to Scott (as an improvement) would probably be to include more sample shots of the output so that we know how it will eventually look.
  • The freebies (online videos) are great… of course, the only way you can get to this is to (1) buy the book and (2) read the intro! That’s right, read the introduction. IT IS IMPORTANT.
  • The book has a lengthy section on off-camera flash, studio setup, using window light, reflectors, etc. It’s great for me to know these things because these are the things that I don’t know and I’m always scared to ask people about this because it might make me look dumb…duh! 🙂 If you want a basic understanding of these and where/how to use them, this book is for you.

I recently purchased an off-camera trigger (kinda like Pocket Wizards, but a different brand) and the book is really a big help for me to start things off. The only bad thing about reading Scott’s book is that I end up thinking of new gadgets to buy! Right now, I’m thinking of getting the following…
