I’m a Certified Nike Addict. I go crazy every time Nike comes out with a new shoe especially if it has a cool design. Even though I already have a lot of shoes, I still have that urge to get one. And I thought only women go crazy over shoes! π One of the new shoes that came out this year was the Nike Zoom Kobe IV. I’ve been admiring the design of the shoe ever since early designs of it started coming out in the net. When I finally saw the white/purple color (also called the ‘inline home colorway’) here in the Philippines (released a month earlier here compared to the States), I immediately grabbed the chance to buy a pair. My old basketball shoes just broke (during a game) so it was my excuse to get a new one. Plus, I’m a big fan of Kobe, so there’s really no better time to get his new kicks. A very good choice indeed! I love the feel of the shoes and they’re extremely light! To be technical about it, the shoe has Nike’s Fly-Wire Technology that makes it light. The cushioning is great and the Zoom technology on the sole is just right when you play on them. Btw, after a week, the shoe has sold out here. Whew, I’m glad I got one immediately. So, what has this got to do with photography? Nothing! π I have been taking photos of my shoes but it’s only during this time that I tried to use off-camera flash to photograph it. Hopefully, the photos look nice. Here’s the setup:
- Black cardboard as the background
- Canon 580 EX-II on a Bogen/Manfrotto Justin Clamp (see photo below)
- Lastolite Tri-grip Diffuser
- Panasonic Lumix LX-3 (Yes, I didn’t use an SLR)
- Flash Waves Trigger (to trigger the flash remotely)
So, here are some of the shoe photos. Enjoy!
What’s in the box? It comes with an extra pair of shoe laces (below). The extra pair is longer than what’s on the shoe. So, if you want to lace it up all the way till the last hole, you should use the extra laces. This is how Kobe laces his shoes. π
The flywire technology is seen in the side of the shoe. Kobe’s logo is on the tongue.
I also took the chance to photograph the shoe along with the ‘Special Edition Sole Collector Kobe Magazine’. This is not my copy of the magazine. This magazine came from Paolo (Ekky’s nephew). The magazine came free when he got the ‘Carpe Diem’ version of the Kobe IV. He also got a hard-bound copy that’s a very limited edition (only 24 of these).

Finally, here’s the setup of the flash. The flashwaves trigger is underneath the flash (the one with the antenna).
